Working away ~ literally
On working in an exotic location…
First ask yourself, seriously, what are you willing to commit to in life? In this case job jumping (for glory?) or a home-life with someone who loves you for who you are right now – unconditionally.
At the same time realize that you currently have a stable job in the US doing the same thing that you would be doing in a temporary job in some Third World nation.
If you still choose the Third World nation option… make sure you are completely honest with yourself (at the very least) and know the TRUE reason of why you are going so that when you become miserable at least you’ll have your reasoning to cheer you up.

First of all, refer to paragraph #1 in “On working in an exotic location…”
Second of all, refer to paragraph #2 in “On working in an exotic location…”
Third of all, refer to paragraph #3 in “On working in an exotic location…”
Then, let me ask you… is the money really worth it to give up your life? Oh, and at the end of it all, are you able to enjoy that money? Do you really think you can have both a family life and an alter-ego life every four months and life each life well? Look at Spider Man and Bat Man… those dudes are seriously screwed up in the head from their alter-ego lives… They hate it – but they made that choice… will you also make that choice? BUT the difference is instead of aiding in the cause of justice, you are aiding in the cause of self… hmmm… that’s not so Buddha, is it?

Then … you must really like the life of uncertainty or you are unable to make a true commitment to everything… here you still want to have your cake and eat it to…
What can you gain from leaving the country every 8 weeks for 8 weeks – frequent flyer miles? That’s a helluva way to gain them. I don’t really think you can hope to foster a relationship that needs attention when you are consistently leaving it. I suppose what I’m saying is that if you really want to help others overseas, then you should do it! Do it because you want to help others though, not because it will bring you fame, glory, or cash. By all means do it… but BUT… take the time to do it when you have a vacation or when you can get a short leave of absence and still have a stable job to come back to.
On why he continues to run…
He doesn’t want to face the real issues in his life and in the end feels badly about himself, and perhaps a lack of “special achievement.” But who is that special achievement for? His parents? His lover? The world? What it needs to be is that he can look at himself and say… “self, you are a damn good you!” and love himself (and not THAT way). He is good at what he does and he should be proud of that. He has good love in his life and he should be grateful. Only, he doesn’t see that. He sees a cloud of despair (hung by who, I don’t know) that is constantly whispering in his ear that he is nothing special and that in order to achieve that “specialness” he has to do something extraordinary. In this case, it seems that the desire to work in an exotic location that is extremely dangerous somehow equates to greatness. Much like a war hero or civil servant for the red cross or peace corps.
On going away and returning disappointed – what now…
If he goes away only to be disappointed… or if he goes away in general… when he returns he will be at square one… no job. Let the classifieds pour in!
